Rear Elevation

Edwardian Infill Development

Located in a desirable residential area of Walton on Thames, FORM Design Group designed and consulted on a project that has recently obtained planning permission for the introduction of two semi-detached Edwardian dwellings following the demolition of a bungalow.

The Challenge

FORM were challenged with creating a design that was easy on the eye and contemporary yet did not clash with the architectural themes and features present in the immediate surroundings of the site.

The challenge was not just to design a building that worked well within the site and in the area but provided the client with the necessary floor space and features to make the project viable.

The Solution

FORM produced a design that featured key Edwardian architectural themes and features with prominent front gables and bay windows finished in traditional brickwork and masonry detailing. Soldier courses and other brickwork detailing around the bay windows on the front elevation provide depth and finesse to the building.

Landscaping along the boundaries helps to create a privacy screen for future occupants as well as provide a softening of the scale, bulk and mass of the new dwellings. Two off-street parking spaces have been provided to help relieve parking stress on the roads.

Whilst the façade of the building benefits from prominent Edwardian architectural features, other contemporary aspects to the design have been incorporated to create a modern feel to the new homes, characterised by the bi-folding doors leading to the private gardens.

The Result

FORM were able to secure planning permission for the developer to erect two much-needed three-bedroom family homes. Development of the site is underway and we look forward to seeing the construction of the project.
