Contemporary Residential Apartment Block

 

Located a stone’s throw away from Sutton Town Centre, the site is well located in terms of a sustainable location. The brief was to design a contemporary 3 storey apartment block to accommodate 9 high quality residential apartments. Form have been commissioned to take the project from its inception, through the planning process and take the project onto site.

 

The three-storey block will feature traditional London Stock brickwork to match the materiality of the vast majority of the surrounding area. The development will showcase feature fish scale zinc cladding to offset the traditional brick work and add a modern feature to the scheme and the street scene. The fenestration will comprise powder coated aluminium  frames as well as full height glass balustrades to provide a minimalist aesthetic to the design.

 

The design of the block is inspired by the varied architectural themes and features in the immediate surroundings of the site. The design offers a fresh interpretation of these themes and features to create well-designed, desirable and functional dwellings.

 

Each of the 9 units will include the accommodation comprising living/kitchen/dining space, bedroom(s), and a bathroom. The development also includes the provision of three car parking spaces in the front forecourt all of which will be served by electric vehicle (EV) charging points. One of the three spaces has been allocated as a disabled space. A bike store will also be positioned at the rear of the site to serve the 9 dwellings.

 

One of the ground floor flats has been designed to be fully wheelchair accessible allowing step free access for future occupants. The development will benefit from a comprehensive landscaping scheme, creating a verdant garden area to compliment the contemporary apartments. The design includes a green Sedam roof to contribute to the biodiversity  and encourage  bees and other insects  to thrive in a suburban setting.
